Spencer Park Fun Day

Last week the Junior School went to Spencer Park for a fun day. In the morning we spent time playing on the huge playground and splashing in the wading pool. 

After lunch, we walked to the beach to meet the team from Christchurch City Council who lead us on a Searching the Shoreline learning experience. We talked about natural and unnatural things that can be found on a beach and then we went on a 'treasure hunt' to search for interesting things. We collected some unnatural waste which we sorted into recycling and rubbish. We also found exciting natural things like shells, driftwood, crabs nippers, and heaps of seaweed! We used our natural treasures to write a message in the sand - 'Look after our world'. 

It was such a fun, busy day out and there were a few sleepy friends on the bus on the way back to school! 

Thank you to all our wonderful parent helpers who made this trip possible. 

This term we have had so much fun learning about the environment and how to be 'kaitaki' (guardians) of our earth. 

Penguins

After the Antarctic Centre trip, it was very clear that Room 2 wanted to learn more about Penguins! During Integrated Learning and writing time we set about watching videos, reading books and researching all about them! 

Each student took a question, or type of penguin and wrote what they had learned. Then with some helpers from Room 5 (thank you Sosefina & Marciah!) we published our work, made a contents page and turned it into our very own Non-Fiction book.

Festival of Flowers

 Recently our school created some artwork to enter in the Festival of Flowers art show. Room 2 made some amazing 'Junk Art Flowers' that were made from recycled bottles. We were so proud of the way we created something beautiful and useful from rubbish.  Now we can take these flowers home to decorate our gardens.

Can it be recycled?

This term Room 2 are learning to be Natures Guardians and look after our world. We have been learning to identify things that can and can't be recycled.

Room 2 also learnt how to use the crop tool on a photo today which was fun to experiment with!

Celebrating Baby Josie's Baptism

We acted out a Baptism and made a slide show with the photos. We used the iPads to write some words on the slides to explain what is happening in the photos.  

 Baby Josie has been welcomed into God's family! 

Our Explain Everything Stories

 This term we have been learning to write our stories on the iPads and use other digital tools. This week we used Explain Everything to read our stories aloud :)
